Farms & Gardens Committee - Tuesday 18 August 2025 at 7pm in the Parish Rooms, Hall Street, Crowland
Present: Cllr. Jon Boor (in the Chair)
Cllrs. Peter Davis, Bryan Alcock, Reg Boot, Jay Levesley, Darren Warner (left meeting at 19.55), Cathie Elphee, Peter Stowe, Graham Searle, and David Kempton.

The meeting was advised that apologies had been received from Cllr Jay Leveslay. It was Resolved: That apologies with valid reasons for absence had been accepted from Cllr Jay Levesley. |

Election of Vice Chairman |
|
|
|
On the proposition of Cllr Boor, seconded by Cllr Elphee that Cllr Boot be elected Vice Chairman, this was agreed by all. |

To approve the minutes of the last F&G meeting |
|
|
|
It was proposed by Cllr Boot and seconded by Cllr Elphee that the minutes of the previous meeting dated 3 June 2025 be accepted as a true record. This was agreed by all. |

5. |
Matters arising/progress from the last meeting |
|
|
|
The Chairman advised that, Cllr Davis has sent quotes for the installation of a secure area for machinery within the Implement shed and will chase R F Welding. Millennium and Centurion woods, signs have been ordered by the deputy clerk. |
|

Allotments |
|
|
|
The Chairman advised that the roses at the entrance obscure the exit onto James Road, these have now been pruned – we need a future planting plan. Electricity supply to be moved into allotment building, the Clerk will chase the National Grid. Toilet hygiene – the signage needs to be checked. An allotment inspection needs to be arranged. |

Cemetery |

We are still awaiting the bio diversity report and Cllr Alcock will chase, The Chairman reported that the area was sprayed off earlier in the year but this will need doing again in the autumn. A costed business plan will need to be developed and agreed at Full Council. |

Machinery replacement |
|
|
|
The Kubota mower will need to be replaced for next season there is a budget allocated and SHDC also provide and five year funding plan linked to the annual precept. The Chairman will organise a demonstration to look at options. Cllr Boor also mentioned the purchase of a trailer for towing by the gator to improve efficiency. |

Trees & Hedges |
|

|
Cllr Searle reported that he and Cllr Stowe had walked the various woods on the estate. The hand gate at Millennium woods wont shut and the gate needs lifting or the post repositioned – R F Welding to consider options. Carrington Road woods has no evidence of visitors but branches have fallen and trees are leaning. Members agreed to order 3 signs saying – KEEP OUT BY ORDER OF CROWLAND PARISH COUNCIL. There is also a lot of fly tipped house hold waste that needs clearing either using our Thorney Road collection point or contacting Ashley Stratford. Marcus Whitwell has quoted £800 to remove 5 dead trees on the Snowden, and cut back trees in Ambury Gardens, this is a safety issue, SHDC have been consulted, on the proposition of Cllr Elphee, seconded by Cllr Stowe, was agreed by all. Replacement tree South Street green, we need to consider recommendations on type before actioning. Reform Street hedge – will need annual cut back and reducing in addition to current contractor, we could seek quotes from Garys gardens and Marcus Whitwell. |

Development land off Cloot Drove |

Somerley estate - the advice of our land agent is to do nothing at this stage which members agreed. If we get notice to vacate we will need to consider our tenant's position. Land rents – we will seek guidance in early September, with any required action to be implemented in mid September. |
